Phil Collins is back! The multi-talented, eight-time Grammy Award-winning British singer, drummer, composer and actor, will honour the Montreux Jazz Festival with an exclusive concert entitled Up Close & Personal: Phil Collins Plays ‘60s Motown and Soul.
This musical journey back in time will feature his interpretations of the biggest R&B, soul and pop hits of the ’60s. He will perform the unforgettable classics of the Motown label, a monument in music history that brought the world artists such as The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes and Smokey Robinson. In September 2010, Phil Collins is to release his new studio album, the first in eight years, which will feature cover versions only.
Commenting on these, the singer said: “My idea was not to bring anything 'new' to these already great records, but to try to recreate the sounds and feelings that I had when I first heard them. My intention was to make an 'old' record, not a 'new' record.” This new project devoted to his youth adds another chapter to Phil Collins’ 40-year career as a rocker, pop star and soundtrack composer. Among his favourite songs, which he interprets with his incomparable voice, feature You Can’t Hurry Love, Heatwave, Girl and Blame It On The Sun, not forgetting The Temptations’ smash hit Papa Was A Rolling Stone. He will be accompanied by 18 musicians, including a five-piece brass section, six backing vocalists and the legendary Funk Brothers of Motown, with bassist Bob Babbitt and guitarists Eddie Willis and Ray Monette. Phil Collins will then come to Europe for what should be his only concert, on July 1, a show th! at will open the 2010 Montreux Jazz Festival. This project is already a success, after 5 concerts in New York and Philadelphia end of June.
